Our first fishing trip together

Our first fishing trip together

It all started with losing my job due to Covid-19, albeit a very stressful time and full of uncertainty, It also gave me the opportunity of getting back into fishing, something I hadn’t been doing often enough.

I asked my children “Who would like to join our local clubs and start fishing with me?” The answers were a resounding “No” from my teenager and a “Yes” from my younger Daughter. I quickly contacted two of my local fishing clubs for a junior membership and within a week we had her licence, along with the statutory EA licence and the Angling Trust membership….no turning back now!

Our first trip we blanked….Oh well, we only went out for the afternoon but our local river was flooded from masses of rain over Christmas 2020/21. We (I) wanted to catch Pike/Perch ideally and were using the chatter baits I recently purchased from Fishin’ Addict, mega vibrations in decent flowing water from those lures. We tried soft creature baits I had picked up from my local tackle shop, I know they work on this river, but neverthless the predators eluded us!

A trip to our local river for some winter predator fishing.

Just one more cast, honest!

My daughter had taken to casting really well and was avoiding trees and snags with every cast! Her retrieve was good too, mixing up the speeds and twitching the rod to entice those pesky Pike.

So for this trip it was great to finally get out on the bank, next time we will be trying local canal The Shroppie!
