Third Time Lucky, Let’s Catch Some Fish

Third time lucky and a change of venue from canal to local club pool.

This is the third fishing trip and third time lucky, it was the time we started catching plenty of fish. We headed to our local club water a small 1 acre pool, it has decent features like reeds and an island and is around 5 or 6ft deep throughout. A great spot for a youngster to fish!

The swim was already being fished and the kind fisherman had baited the swim with mixed maggots and ground bait all day, luckily for us he was just leaving and he left us his maggots and ground bait, good stuff!

We got the kit out of the car and started setting up a match rod for my daughter to float fish about a rod length out. I set up a ledger rig on a carp rod and bite alarm, so I could focus on her.

I’ll get this over with, I didn’t have a sniff on the boilie, which cast out by the reeds all day. The Daughter, however was pulling silvers out all afternoon.

She was fishing a light wangler about 5-1/2ft deep with maggots on a size 16 hook, the first few were the pesky gudgeon. So I changed the shot pattern on the line to give it a slower drop into the water and the silvers started to feed.
